1 can chickpeas, drained & mashed roughly
1/2 red onion, chopped finely
1 zucchini, grated
1 carrot, grated
2 tablespoons ground corriander
3 tablespoons ground cumin
2 tablespoons nut butter (almond, cashew etc.)
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon chopped/grated garlic
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 teaspoons fresh ground pepper
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Spelt flour for binding (if required)
Olive oil for binding (if required)
Oat bran for binding (if required)


  1. Combine all ingredients and use additional flour, oil or oatbran to bind into stiff patty-type mix.
  2. Shape into patties/burgers and BBQ, bake in the oven or shallow fry until golden brown
  3. Great served with chutney or raiita (yoghurt with lime juice, cumin & grated cucumber)
